How do videos get listed in the most popular section of the homepage and channels?

The most popular listings for the homepage and for the channel areas are based on the most views in the last 24 hours, not the most overall views.
So if your video has a total of 1500 views with 400 of them from the last 24 hours and another video has 900 views with 500 of them being from the last 24 hours the video with 900 views will be ranked higher.
